In the Epic Games Store’s Epicmas sale, this Lord of The Rings is free. In the game, players will be able to be dwarfs and explore the legendary mines to fend off the shadows. The game is a very standard survival-crafting experience that doesn’t really add much of a twist, although the Lord of The Rings content and cameos from established characters make it feel new enough.
The novel is set in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, soon after the defeat of Sauron and the War of the Ring. The ultimate dwarf, Gimli, leads a team of dwarfs to Moria to rescue their underworld city from goblins and orcs. The game itself is relatively simple and you can play it in co-op with up to eight people. You’re going to have to extract resources, fortify hives and repel enemies in the deep caves.
It has all the hallmarks of a survival-crafting game, with hunger and fatigue bars, building bases, and damage done to weapons, but Return to Moria stands out from others in that it is primarily narrative-driven. The game contains huge predefined zones that can be traversed linearly and small procedurally generated areas that split apart from them.
There are moments where the game shines, like when your dwarves meet in a black tunnel and start singing. It makes you forget you’re digging for hours, taking out trolls and orcs, and working your way through a seemingly endless maze of caves.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Skyrim provides one of the most beautiful fantasy role-playing games on the market today. It’s a big, tough game to win because you have yet another urgent mission to fulfill or new patch of land to find. It transports you into a well-constructed fictional universe, a world of layers of narrative history and fleshed-out characters that sound like humans, rather than empty nouns delivering quests the way a downtown doorman distributes fliers for sale jeans.
The quest line is all about destroying dragons and taking in their souls to get superpowers, but Skyrim is so much more than that. The world is incredibly huge and interesting, with lots of dungeons to raid, characters to meet, cities to conquer, and so on. Combat can be as tactical or as chaotic as you want it to be: swords, axes, hammers and bows are all available. You can also build your own characters, tailoring them in any number of ways, and constructing a special story.
Skyrim isn’t nearly as good as some of the latest offerings out there, but it’s still a must-have RPG title. No matter if you’re a new player or an aficionado, it’s one of the most epic free games in history.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
A monster-slayer mercenary named Geralt of Rivia is dispatched on a mission into a world of war and monsters to rescue his daughter, Ciri, from an orphanage. You’ll fight the game’s countless threats with swords and magic, explore its sprawling open world, challenge NPCs, and pursue quests – all of which will earn you experience and gold to upgrade your talents and purchase gear.
The Witcher 3’s visuals are simply mind blowing. Every detail is meticulously put together, and the animation – particularly the monsters – is some of the best I’ve seen on a videogame. The Witcher 2’s characters, in contrast to their stern expressions, never have blank faces; the entire game is stricken with emotion, and it feels very humanist indeed.
The Witcher 3 is an incredible game, but let’s not forget it’s been a long time since it was first released in 2015. The game’s loading times are nothing to write home about, and the game still seems like it came out of a year where a Middle Eastern war was the greatest threat on earth.
Even still, The Witcher 3’s free PS5 next generation update renders the game in its purest form ever. Any fan of the series will love it.
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, the latest title in the wildly popular series from Bethesda Game Studios, is an open-world masterpiece. This amazing games free mystery game has both rich storytelling and the player-controlled environment reveals a rich, complex world reacting to your every move.
The setting is in the province of Cyrodiil, the heartland of the Empire of Tamriel. It begins with your character in jail, then you break free and search for the emperor Uriel Septim VII’s betrayed illegitimate son, who is undermining the entire empire.
Oblivion: Elder Scrolls IV redefined RPG gaming, presenting gamers with endless possibilities of what and how to play. It also featured the Radiant AI system, a new way of playing with NPCs to bring them to life. Its beautiful graphics, even in the modern era, represented a leap in visual verisimilitude and offered players a sense of life.
